The Flamingo Chair
The Flamingo chair explores a new approach to seating, resting, and the way we interact with our bodies while taking a break. Inspired by the resting behaviour of birds, particularly the flamingo and its subtle shifts of balance from one leg to another, the design encourages movement rather than prolonged stillness.
The chair is constructed from welded metal, with a seat and resting surfaces made from foam and leather, carefully shaped and sewn to create a balance between structure, comfort, and function.
At the core of the design is a movable knee rest that rotates 360 degrees around the central seat base. This feature invites the user to shift their weight, adjust their posture, and move naturally while resting. Rather than encouraging the body to remain fixed in one position, the chair proposes a more active and dynamic experience of rest.
By rethinking the traditional idea of sitting, the project challenges the assumption that rest must mean stillness. It explores the possibility of a more conscious relationship between movement, balance, and comfort, where small, continuous adjustments become an integral part of the resting experience.
